I Support Our Armed Forces
Armed Forces Day is observed annually on the last Saturday of June; this year, it falls on the 28th June. This presents an opportunity to demonstrate our support for the men and women of the Armed Forces community, encompassing active-duty personnel, their families, veterans, and cadets.
The selection of June 27th as the initial date was based on its proximity to the anniversary of the first Victoria Cross investiture, which took place in London's Hyde Park on June 26th, 1857. Rear-Admiral Charles Davis Lucas VC, a recipient from County Armagh, received the Victoria Cross from Queen Victoria on that date.
Showing appreciation for the Armed Forces strengthens the resolve of those currently serving. It also provides a sense of belonging and value for veterans who have sacrificed for their country. The families of service members and veterans gain reassurance knowing their loved ones' dedication is recognised. Public displays of support create a positive environment for the entire military community. This bolsters overall national unity and pride.
